what are these lovely orange things? *** Usefulness of the day: When making rice, add 1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice to the boiling water to improve the texture. Also, coupon for a free lunch.
Well ... most people would call them day lilies. Some might call them tiger lilies. Tiger lilies to me are the ones that have multiple flowers on on either side of the stalk.
I have these lovely flowers surrounding our pool and I would call they day lilies because they only last for one day if you cut them and put them in a vase.
There is a true controversy as what to call them. We have them growing wild by the roadside here in NJ in July.
Your call as to what you "call" them.
Your season is much earlier than ours. Mine are just just buds at this point.
Yep, tiger lillies. They can have dark stripes, too, more like a tiger. :] We have them at our house in Missouri, and they grow like little grassy clumps with flowers poking out on stems.
they spread like crazy, soon you'll have a section of your yard that looks like it's on fire! and the foilage after the flower is gone isn't an eyesore, either. You may want to have a "splitting" party in a couple of years, they do much better when not all clumped together and you can spread your beautiful wealth :)
They look like common daylilies...the tuber is actually edible!
They don't make such a great picked flower, as they fade by days end, but because they have so many blossoms on each stem, they look great in plantings. Be careful, they can go crazy!

Here in the South, we call those Day Lillies. They lose the flower each evening and bloom again the next morning.

I thought they were called tiger lillies, but thought I must be mistaken! Peter Pan and all.
These really just popped up all of a sudden. Yesterday morning there was 1, then this evening there were 2 dozen.
day lillies, like the bomb solo said. :)

Yep, Daylillies here and I have scoped out some I plan to dig up roadside and cart home. :)

Day lillies in Oz too. :)
ok, I'm going to go with tiger lillies because that just sounds more...ferocious..than "day" lily. Although "day lily" does have a lovely ring to it.
And Kimmie - no idea the tubers were edible! Wow! I'm guessing they are sauteed?
According to my family a Tiger Lily is a kind of Daylily, so everyone is right.
They are day lilies and the petals are edible. Tiger lilies have stripes and are poisonous.
