How does your garden grow?

Alas, no cockle shells, but a good amount of silver bells.

I found this hanging from a low tree. I forgot to bring this one in at the end of the season. What is it? A silver bell strung to a tree by a Fourth of July wire garland. I wired these bells all over the yard in an effort to keep the birds out of the garden. Birds, I learned, don't much care for shiny, metallic items, particularly ones that make noises. Pinwheels were recommended and rejected due to their resemblance to dog toys. Bells could be securely wired to plant supports, and moved up as the plants grew. I wired the leftover bells to the lower tree branches to discourage even the spectators.
