pink and purple

Anyone know what these are? They have invaded my raspberry patch. The birds are quite fond of them, which is why, despite their lucious coloring (magenta stems!), I suspect they are toxic to humans.

I have no idea what they are. A weed.

We used to pretend they were dye when we were little and use it to barter when we played village.

I got in trouble for getting some major permanent stains on my clothes.

they're called Pokeberries and my brother and I almost died from eating them like grapes when we were small...I remember the ride to the emergency room and the ipecac as well as the heinous projectile vomiting we both did for what seemed like hours...mom kept having to shake us awake, we were going to sleep on the way to the hospital...it was nightmarish.

I guess I'm going to go with pokeberries as per the one with actual experience! The Googled images match up with what I have. According to Wikipedia, the Declaration of Independence was written with pokeberry juice.

Yep. We call them Poke weed and got in trouble playing with them too. :)

Lilli - well, hopefully you weren't rushed to the ER like Kimber!

No, we'd steal flour from the kitchen and use that, the berries and water to "cook" in the yard or make paint ro whatever else we imagined that day. Stained our hands and clothes terribly. lol
